Solar Panels Used For Parking Shade

I just found a great idea on the internet!!! I live in sunny, hot Southern California and this idea is so astounding, I can’t believe it’s not everywhere!! Whenever I go anywhere, I always look for a shady spot to park. It is difficult to find a shady spot because that is what everyone else does too! All the nice shady spots are taken! We all need more solar panels, so why not use solar panels to give the consumers what they want? WE NEED SHADE!!! There are days I want to go shopping, but it is just too hot. I hate getting back into my hot, sunbaked car after a day of being in a cooled building.

What a novel idea! I love it! We can get energy from the sun, and shade for our cars. What a brilliant, awesome idea!! Let’s get started!!

Helping Out

Sandwich

Today we spent the day cleaning up my elderly parent’s huge yard. They have both been ill, and had let their yard get out of shape. So, my three kids and I brought plenty of drinks from home starting with reverse osmosis water, iced coffee, ginseng tea, and green tea.If you plan on helping out, be sure to bring plenty of healthy drinks, especially water if you are going to be working outside. Bring a good organic lunch to help get you through the day. We wore hats on our heads to keep the sun off of our face and gloves on our hands to protect our hands from all the bugs, dirt, sap, and tools.

We had a great day helping out the folks, and a great day just being outdoors in the great autumn sunshine. My eldest son climbed a tree to trim it and did an excellent job of it. And my other two and I edged the perimeter and pulled weeds and took out a ton of ivy that had overgrown a fence and spread out onto the sidewalk. I love the way well kept ivy looks. A lot of the ivy we took out was old growth with tons of dead leaves underneath.

I am glad we were able to help out, but I have a feeling I am going to be sore tomorrow. Oh well, we are going on our Haunted Halloween Hike, so that ought to loosen up my muscles from the over exertion of today. I will keep you posted!

Solar Panel

We visited Universal Studios Hollywood today. We noticed quite a few solar panels, and were very impressed. When I returned home this evening I did a search for blogs on USH and was even more impressed and surprised at the posts I found:

Universal Studios To Go Green

Green Is Universal Isn’t Just For TV

Yay for Universal Studios and for another somewhat unrelated fact: They have Whoopi Goldberg as their spokesperson on the Universal Studios Hollywood Tour!! I love Whoopi. Thank you USH! I hope many other Theme Parks, Big Businesses, etc. follow suit.

Alligator

One of my favorite shows to watch on TV is Bones. I was so pleased to see that they put the organic angle in their discussion. I loved it! I mean I love the show anyway, but I think organics are going everywhere now!!I don’t watch much else on TV, except for reruns of Star Trek Voyager. They never talk about organic foods on Star Trek. What with replicators and hydrponics, I am sure they are eating only the necessary ingredients, without any pesticide residue or chemically altered…wait their food is chemically formed. Oh well! That is just a show that takes place in the future.

Anyway, like I was saying. I am very happy to see everyone talking about Organics. It is not just about an apple that is not chemically treated and free of pesticide residue, but it IS a way of life, a way of taking care of our beautiful planet!

P.S. If you don’t know why I posted a picture of an alligator, watch Bones! It’s kinda funny. Might make you go Organic!

Ten Tips For An Earth Friendly Holiday

Our Earth

October 23, 2007 on 12:06 am | In Discussion | No Comments

Planet Earth

Remember that there are others on this planet we call Earth. We are gobbling up the resources almost as fast as they are produced without replenishing them. We are all a part of the Earth, and we all need to start doing our part NOW to ensure our children’s children will have a place to live.Wherever you are in your little corner of the earth, you can do much to help our planet. Some of the things I like to do:

Don’t buy plastic water bottles. We have a countertop reverse osmosis water filter. No more lugging bottles of expensive water up the stairs.

I try to buy foods that have less packaging. I try to make my foods from scratch and shop in the produce section and meat section of the store. If I do get packaged foods, I recycle the packaging at the local recycler.

We turn off whatever we are not using. We use power strips to turn off everything from the source. Even though your TV is off, it can still use electricity. Turning off the power strip cuts off all the electricity, so it may reset your clocks in your VCR etc., but it makes me feel good to use less electricity.
